When ever you are considering hiring a children’s entertainer you must always remember that the children’s safety is paramount. It's important to note that it is a legal requirement within New South Wales for all self employed people working in child-related employment to have undergone a Working with Children Check through The Office of the Children's Guardian.
What is a Working with Children Check?
A Working With Children Check is a prerequisite for anyone in child-related work. It involves a national criminal history check and review of findings of workplace misconduct.
The result of a Working With Children Check is either a clearance to work with children for five years, or a bar against working with children. Cleared applicants are subject to ongoing monitoring, and relevant new records may lead to the clearance being revoked.
The Check is fully portable which means it can be used for any paid or unpaid child-related work in NSW for as long as the worker remains cleared.
How to verify a clearance online:
Go to www.newcheck.kids.nsw.gov.au and click the [Start here] button.
Under the [Verify] section, select [Individuals (e.g parents) verify] button
Complete the [Your details] section and the [Details of the person to be verified] section then press submit.
The result of this Working With Children Check verification will be emailed to you.
